A Green Bay family had quite a scare over the weekend.
Fire crews were dispatched to a residence in the 2400 block Heather Road early Saturday morning on a report of a fire.
When they arrived, crews noted a fire near the top of the structure and all of the residents outside.
The flames were quickly extinguished, but not before the exterior of the residence suffered significant damage.
The interior of the home was unphased, so the occupants were allowed back inside.
It was determined that the fire was caused by a fire pit on the deck which was not properly extinguished the night before.
The Green Bay Metro Fire Department is using this case as a reminder for those who start campfires to ensure they are completely extinguished before leaving them alone.
