After his K9 partner passed away earlier this month due to the heat, a Monroe County deputy is now without a job.
The sheriff’s office announced Tuesday that Detective Alex Maas had left the organization.
Since last week, when his K9 partner Kolt passed away from heat stroke, he had been on administrative leave.
After being locked in a hot car on May 10, the dog was rushed to the vet; he never recovered.
The investigation into the dog’s death is being assisted by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office and Juneau County District Attorney’s Office.
The sheriff claims that the investigation is still ongoing.
