The annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s is being held on September 9th this year.
Stephanie Zemke, VP of Development, invites everyone involved and who wants to be involved with the walk to a kickoff party on June 9th.
“The kick-off party will be held at The Wharf in Manitowoc from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.,“ Zemke said. “It’s a casual event as you don’t have to stay the whole time it’s to find out more about the walk, how you can support our advocacy work, signed up your team, and get some appetizers and a drink. Some of that money will go back to the Alzheimer’s Association.“
We asked Stephanie about the number of people affected by the disease.
“6,000,000 Americans have Alzheimer’s and 11 million Americans take care of someone with Alzheimer’s,“ Zemke said. “The reach of this disease is unfortunately very broad. We’d love to have folks come out to honor their loved ones suffering from Alzheimer’s or their caregivers who take care of them.“
CJ Werley, the walk site manager on September 9th, talked about the route of this year‘s walk.
She said, “We will meet at the Manitowoc Two Rivers YMCA. The walk itself will be on the Mariners Trail and will go north towards Waldo, walk a mile down the path, and a mile back. So it’s simple with a gorgeous look at the lake.“
CJ added, “If businesses are interested in being an exhibitor that will take place kind of behind the YMCA cut-out corner parking lot.“
CJ called it a beautiful view and a great place for an event. We asked CJ about the goal of the event, and she said, “We are not going to stop until we find a cure.“
