The game of chicken over the plan from Wisconsin Republicans to send a half-billion dollars more to local governments has begun.
Even if the Senate Republicans and Governor Tony Evers are not entirely on board, Republicans in the State Assembly last night passed their shared revenue plan.
Assembly Speaker Robin Vos declared that the resolution has reached its conclusion.
The governor expressed his “optimism” about the negotiations earlier in the day.
A few amendments were made to the plan that the Assembly passed last night, including an increase in the funding for local governments, modifications to the criteria for local advisory referendum questions, and an increase in the amount of authority given to public health managers in an emergency.
After being discussed by state senators, the plan can change yet again.
