What began as a traffic check turned into a two-county chase across the Chippewa Valley.
The State Patrol attempted to pull over 61-year-old Paul Smith Sunday for speeding and running a stop sign.
The troopers said that Smith sped off after refusing to stop.
The pursuit began on Hastings Way at Highway 93, continued along I-94, and finally came to an end when Lake Hallie Police utilized spike strips to halt the suspect’s automobile in Chippewa County.
Smith was taken into custody on a plethora of offenses, including his fifth OWI.
