A St. Croix County officer was shot and died while conducting a drunk driving stop on Saturday night.
Deputy Kaitie Leising was only 29 years old.
According to investigators, the man she had stopped turned and shot her as she was in the middle of an OWI stop.
She returned fire but did not hit the suspect.
Other officers discovered the suspect dead, apparently from a suicide.
Later, at a neighborhood hospital, Deputy Leising passed away.
Leising had only recently begun working for the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office; prior to that, she had been employed by the South Dakotan Pennington County Sheriff’s Office.
