Republican Madison legislators are considering a new law that would offer funding to prevent suicides.
Tomorrow’s meeting of the Assembly Committee on Mental Health is scheduled to discuss the proposal.
It is one of the few gun control laws being considered by Republicans in the Capitol this year.
Trying to prevent people from using firearms to end their own life is the main goal.
The emphasis would be on educating employees at gun shops and shooting ranges to recognize the warning signals of someone who might be contemplating suicide and on offering temporary storage for persons who wish to surrender their firearms while undergoing treatment for a mental health condition
