Manitowoc Public Utilities has been honored for their focus on worker safety.
The local utility was awarded the American Public Power Association’s (APPA) Safety Award of Excellence for safe operating practices in 2022.
283 utilities from across the country entered the annual Safety Awards, and entrants were placed in categories according to their number of worker hours.
They are then ranked based on incident-free records and the overall state of their safety programs and culture during 2022.
MPU earned the 2nd place award in the category for utilities with 110,000 – 249,999 worker-hours of annual worker exposure.
Troy Adams, MPU General Manager who received the award in person on behalf of MPU, said: “I’m very proud of our team and the safety culture they have collectively developed at MPU.”
Additionally, MPU was honored locally by the Municipal Electric Utilities of Wisconsin (MEUW) with the 2022 Safety Achievement Award, Gold category, which they have received consecutively for the last 12 years.
