A Manitowoc woman is asking for some financial help as her family copes with the loss of one family member and the sudden hospitalization of another.
April Backus tells us family’s rough patch began on March 29th with the sudden passing of her cousin Kayla.
Her mother, April’s aunt, had driven Kayla to Milwaukee as she wasn’t feeling right, and within minutes of arriving, Kayla passed out.
“They told my aunt that her organs were failing,” April said. “Then they ended up doing a CT scan and found out that she no longer had brain activity anymore and gave my aunt 12 hours to figure out what she wanted to do.”
After several other tests, it was determined that it was time to pull the plug.
Then, just a week or so later, the family was struck with another tragedy involving April’s 3 week old cousin.
“The day, or two, after Easter, my aunt messaged me saying he was rushed to a Milwaukee hospital,” April revealed. “She took him into Aurora and he was projectile vomiting everywhere and they didn’t know why. Once he got to Milwaukee, they did some testing and it showed that he has fluid on his brain and a bunch of tumors in his stomach.”
While the family has not received that bill yet, they have gotten a bill from the funeral home.
The burial of Kayla is going to cost them $4,000, which they do not have.
April tells Seehafer News, “From what my aunt told me, because it’s already been a month if she doesn’t come up with the money soon, they are going to put her in an unmarked grave.”
A GoFundMe page has been set up for April’s family, which also includes an ask for clothing for her young nephew.
