Senator Andre Jacque is among a group of four legislators who have introduced a bill aimed at curbing the number of ATV crashes in Wisconsin.
The De Pere legislator is joined by fellow Republican Representative Jeff Mursau and Democratic Representatives Deb Andraca and Lori Palmeri on the bill which would prohibit open alcohol containers in or on ATVs and UTVs.
The group noted in their release that more than 80 people in Wisconsin died in ATV crashes involving alcohol in the six years leading up to 2021.
Current law allows the carrying of open alcohol containers on these vehicles, but this bi-partisan measure would end that.
However, the bill does create an exception from this prohibition for a person in possession of an empty bottle or receptacle that was acquired as refuse.
Current law also prohibits the operation of an ATV or UTV by a person who has an alcohol concentration of 0.08 or more.
