A 19-year-old Green Bay man has been charged after he accidentally shot another man in an apartment over the weekend.
The incident occurred at an apartment in the 1300 block of Harvey Street, and officers and medical personnel were called just before 11:00 p.m. on a report of a gunshot and a critically wounded victim.
19-year-old Miguel Lavariega admitted to officers that he was showing a rifle to the man, who wanted to buy it, when the weapon discharged.
Lavariega said the victim allegedly set the weapon down on a counter when it happened, but the victim claimed Lavariega pulled the trigger.
The victim claimed Lavariega pointed the weapon at a wall and pulled the trigger, but it jammed.
He then charged it, aimed it at the victim, and fired.
Doctors say the bullet hit several major organs but missed his heart by about a centimeter.
Lavariega has been charged with 2nd Degree Reckless Injury with Use of a Dangerous Weapon and Obstructing an Officer.
