Marvin J. Kliment, age 90, a lifelong Manitowoc resident, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2023 at Rivers Bend Health and Rehabilitation of Manitowoc.
He was born September 9, 1932 in Manitowoc, only child of the late John and Ella (Wacek) Kliment. Marv attended McKinley School, Woodrow Wilson Jr. High School, and Lincoln High School, graduating with the class of 1951. Following High School, he was drafted into the United States Army, specializing in Artillery, from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1954. During that time, he served nine months in Korea. On June 21, 1958, Marv married Clarice Kattreh by the Rev. E.G. Behm at Trinity Lutheran Church in Kiel. She preceded him in death on August 1, 1989. He was employed at numerous places over the years, including Nelson Plumbing, Aluminum Specialty, and Manitowoc Cranes as crane operator, retiring in 1993 after 32 years of service. Marv was a life member of IAM Local 516, AMVETS Post 99, American Legion Post 88, and VFW Otto Oas Post 659. Marv was proud to have had the opportunity to go on an Honor Flight in September of 2016. He was also a member of Manitowoc Unit Fish and Game, Shoto Conservation Club, Boy Scouts of America (Order of the Arrow), Czech Choraliers, and Wisconsin Czech’s. Marv was an avid outdoorsman, especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping, especially at Crooked Lake in Crivitz. He also enjoyed traveling, which included many Amtrack trips as well as visits to Czech Republic.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law: Beth and James Nadeau Sr., Manitowoc; three grandchildren: Anita (Aaron) Thrasher, Carol Nadeau, and James Nadeau Jr. (Christine Granger), all of Manitowoc; three great-grandchildren: Addie Thrasher (Significant other Carter Hollatz), Marshfield, Aythan Thrasher, Manitowoc, Ella Nadeau, Manitowoc; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Loyal (Kay) Kattreh, Manitowoc. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Clarice Kliment; his parents: John and Ella Kliment; sister-in-law: Valeria Kluenker; brother-in-law: Roy Kluenker; step-sisters-in-law and step-brothers-in-law: Marcellaine “Marcie” (Donald) McCabe and Lila (Raymond) Girke; and two nephews: Eric Kattreh and Daniel Kluenker.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home, 628 North Water Street, Manitowoc. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Zachary DeArmond. Following the service, Marv will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 88, AMVETS Post 99, and VFW Otto Oas Post 659. Following the burial, a reception will be held for family and friends at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center, 620 North Water Street, Manitowoc.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home, Manitowoc. The visitation will continue on Wednesday morning, April 5, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
