The leadership team from Manitowoc Public Utilities made a trip to the state capitol in Madison this week to discuss their Manitowoc Refuel Renewable project.
The initiative began in 2021 when MPU began refueling their two primarily fossil fuel-fired boilers to run exclusively on Wisconsin-recognized 100% renewable densified fuel pellets.
These pellets are actually made from local non-economically recyclable industrial paper and plastic waste that otherwise be landfill-bound.
MPU representatives were fortunate to be able to meet with Governor Evers’s office, Senator Devin LeMahieu, and Assembly members David Steffen, Paul Tittl, and Shae Sortwell.
These constructive meetings were an opportunity to share the success MPU has had with the project and to gain support as they continue working towards refueling another boiler.
In a written statement, the MPU leadership team said, “We’re grateful for the positive reception from our elected officials and look forward to sharing more project success with them in the future.”
