The City of Two Rivers has approved an ordinance that will make those with green thumbs rather happy.
During the Monday City Council meeting, the council approved a zoning ordinance amendment that initiates a one-year pilot program for residents to have vegetable gardens in their front yards.
Two Rivers City Manager Greg Buckley tells us there are some limitations.
“The program proposed by our Environmental Advisory Board would allow raised gardens of up to 100 square feet total, or container gardens containing up to 100 square feet of soil,” Buckley noted. “If you aggregate that it is about a 10×10 area.”
This proposal has been a point of contention for some time, as the Plan Commission and the City Council both had previously opposed the idea.
However, this latest iteration, which will only be in place for a year, did have majority support in the Plan Commission and passed on a 7-1 vote by the council.
