The Walmart store in De Pere was shut down for a while Monday as a man had barricaded himself inside the bathroom.
Officers were sent to the store on Lawrence Drive just after 9:30 a.m. on a report of a man acting strange.
He was said to be behaving erratically, making odd comments, and stumbling into shelves.
When police made contact with the man they believed to be under the influence of either drugs or alcohol, he was wielding two large kitchen knives.
He fled from police before locking himself in the bathroom.
The Brown County SWAT and a local K-9 were called in to assist.
The store was cleared out as police negotiated with the yet-unidentified man.
After a lengthy standoff, he surrendered and was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.
The situation was said to be contained just before 2:00 p.m.
Criminal charges are, at last word, pending the completion of the investigation.
