A retired Wisconsin detective has lost a defamation lawsuit against streaming giant Netflix over his portrayal in the 2015 documentary series “Making a Murderer.”
In April 2019, former Detective Andrew Colborn of the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office filed a lawsuit against Netflix, claiming that the makers of “Making a Murderer,” Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos, misquoted his testimony against Steven Avery and presented him in a negative light.
Friday, Netflix and the filmmakers received a favorable ruling from U.S. District Judge Brett Ludwig, who found that the documentary did not distort the meaning of his words and that he failed to demonstrate that the filmmakers acted maliciously toward him.
