Just because the audio recording devices are out of Green Bay City Hall, that doesn’t mean the case is over.
A civil lawsuit over their installation is still going on, meaning criminal charges could be coming.
Brown County District Attorney David Lasee is working with the Green Bay Police Department and the West Allis Police Department on this investigation.
Wisconsin state law indicates that in order to record a conversation, at least one of the parties involved must consent, and violation of this law is a Class H felony.
The City’s defense remains that anyone in a public hallway in City Hall should have no reasonable expectation of privacy.
The devices came to light last month when a council member brought them up at an open meeting.
The Council has since voted to have them removed, and recordings destroyed, pending the outcome of this investigation and litigation.
