Several local leaders are now back home following a trip to Washington D.C.
Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels, Two Rivers City Manager Greg Buckley, and representatives of their respective Utility units made the trip to speak with members of Congress and the Senate about a variety of utility-related topics.
Buckley tells us that some of those topics were, “Cyber security protection of the electrical grid, [and] assuring diversity of energy sources as the country moves forward.”
Mayor Nickels praised the fact that Manitowoc has the largest public utility in the state but noted that with that comes regulations.
That’s why he and MPU representatives met with Senators Ron Johnson and Tammy Baldwin, Congressman Glenn Grothman, and other power industry leaders to, “Lobby our representatives to make sure that they are supportive of what we are doing and that they stay out of the way.”
Nickels also noted that MPU, which has powered the Clipper City for over 100 years, has traditionally burned coal to power the city, but has recently moved toward paper pellets.
