Through a DNA match, Racine police identified their 23-year-old murder suspect.
Racine Police made an arrest Wednesday in the case of Linda Fields’s murder in 2000.
She was found dead from strangulation.
At the time, DNA evidence existed, but neither the state nor federal databases contained any matches.
According to Racine Police, a DNA match from Lucas Alonso’s father and brother led them to the suspect.
Alonso was identified by investigators working backward from that point on.
In Racine earlier this month, he was detained.
