Vergean A. Fischer, age 89, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Friday, March 3, 2023 at the Aurora Medical Center in Two Rivers.
Vergean was born on January 23, 1934 on the family farm at West Salem. She was the daughter of the late Louis and Eva Vandervort Heinze. Vergean attended West Salem High School and graduated with the class of 1951 with perfect attendance even though the weather was sometimes -50 degrees. Brrr! She met her first husband, Richard Stowe, while working at the La Crosse Telephone Company. He preceded her in death. Vergean and Richard moved to Green Bay and she did secretarial work with her last job being at Diana Manufacturing where she loved her employment there. Vergean was forced to retire due to health reasons. She was known for her beautiful singing voice along with being a fantastic cook and wonderful baker. She was a song leader at her former church, the Ascension Church in Green Bay, and sang in the church choir for 23 years. Vergean also sang in Chantelles for several years and was a member of the Green Bay Symphony Chorus directed by Trinidad Chaves, also member of Reminesce and the Silver Memories. Her class prophesy was that one day she would be singing on WLS Radio in Chicago. Vergean didn’t sing there but she did sing on WOMT Radio! PRAISE THE LORD! She met her second husband, Milan Fischer, playing sheepshead. They were married on February 23, 1979 in Green Bay. He preceded her in death on August 9, 2015. They were married for 35 happy years.
She is survived by nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Eva Heinze, her first husband, Richard Stowe and second husband, Milan Fischer. Vergean was also preceded in death by her siblings, Elton (Elvera) Heinze, Jane Hesselberg (Free), Donna (Doug) Peterson, Louis (Rosetta) Heinze, Mary Lou Meyer (Hailey), Sharon Simmons (Royce) along with nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. on Friday, March 10, 2023 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. Andrew Wendle. Relatives and friends may call at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Friday from 12 p.m. until the time of services at 1 p.m. Following the memorial service a reception will be held at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the funeral home. Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel with placement of her cremated remains to be at Evergreen Cemetery in Manitowoc.
It was Vergean’s personal wishes to convey at this time a special thank you to her neighbors and friends for helping her so much after her husband’s passing, Sue Shimek and Tony Butala, Pat Novak, Dwayne and Nancy Lenca, John and Nina Bastain, Scott Waak, Don and Kim Rauens, Donalyn and Keith Tuttle and Abby, and Peggy Reimer for all her prayers, Carol and Kelly Christiansen, Lynn Denis for all her years of cleaning, and Rick Salta. Also special thanks is given to the Doctor’s and staff at the emergency room at Aurora Medical Center in Two Rivers for everything they did to help Vergean.
