The Manitowoc community stepped up big this weekend for a fallen hero.
The Patriot Riders of America, WI Chapter 2, held a chili cookoff Saturday, which raised over $2,000 to help cover the funeral expenses for recently deceased Vietnam veteran, Hal Lachman.
Hal passed away late last year, and had no family to cover his funeral costs.
According to the president of the local Patriot Riders chapter, Tommy Knapp, the event raised $2,057 for Hal’s final resting place, to cover burial and headstone costs, while the cremation and a cemetery plot were donated.
The winners at 3T’s Saturday were Jeff, Brittany, and Eric, who each received a trophy and a Kwik Trip gift card.
Knapp also thanked “Kickin’ It Karaoke and DJ Service, Dawn and Jesse Pearson especially for singing the National Anthem and American Soldier. Dawn did a beautiful job! A few people had tears in their eyes.”
