The audio recording devices in Green Bay City Hall are being shut off, at least for now.
Brown County Judge Marc Hammer issued a temporary restraining order that requires the devices be shut off and that no one access any recording that comes from them.
This will remain in effect until the litigation process is complete.
Since the devices were made known to the public, the City has defended them, saying they are there for safety reasons, not to spy on the public.
Attorneys representing the City say there had been verbal altercations in City Hall in the past, but the State noted that the recording devices were not placed where the altercations occurred.
The City is appealing the restraining order.
