The recent rain and sleet caused some issues for traffic, but also for a local non-profit.
Grow It Forward Founder and CEO Amber Daugs tells Seehafer News that they experienced some major flooding Monday.
She said the sump pump in the lower portion of their facility on Marshal Street was worked very hard, but it couldn’t keep up.
“It led to water flowing into our elevator shaft, where we had about 2 and a half feet of water piled up,” Daugs explained. “That created the failure of the sump pump in our elevator pit.”
A total of about two inches of water ended up flooding the entire basement.
This led the Grow it Forward team to go into a storage room, where they discovered another problem.
“We ended up pulling away some of the equipment from the walls, and discovered a secondary water issue in our facility and quite a bit of mold,” she revealed. “Altogether, with the restoration company, the electrician, the plumber, and the elevator company coming in, we are looking at around $150,000 in damage and repairs.”
And of course, Daugs tells us their insurance doesn’t cover flooding, so they have to foot the bill by themselves.
