Work has officially begun on the construction of a new firehouse in Chilton.
City leaders were on hand Wednesday as ground was broken on the future home of the Chilton Fire Department.
The current station was constructed in 1935 and department leadership says it no longer meets their needs.
Not only will the $5 million station be bigger, but it will also hold upgraded offices for first responders and improved security.
City and department leadership have been working on the project behind the scenes for a year and a half, and they say it is a major step in a series of improvements being made in the City of Chilton.
