The trial for a Two Rivers man accused of abusing a child to the point of death was scheduled to begin today (March 1st).
27-year-old Matthew Brown-Edwards was arrested in January of 2018 after his girlfriend’s two-month-old baby died.
A key witness in the case was reported to have suffered a significant family emergency and is no longer able to testify this week.
The state filed a motion to postpone the trial, which Judge Jerilyn Dietz approved.
Brown-Edwards is still due in court today for a status conference, with his new trial scheduled for June 19th through the 30th.
He is facing charges of 1st Degree Reckless Homicide, Child Abuse Recklessly Causing Great Harm, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
