State Senator Andre Jacque has introduced a bill that he says will help ensure a patient’s privacy is protected.
The bill known as the Patient Privacy Protection Act was co-written by Democrat Lena Taylor of Milwaukee, and Republican Representative Janel Brandtjen of Menomonee Falls.
This legislation aims to require medical personnel to receive specific, informed consent from a patient before performing a pelvic exam while they are under general anesthesia or unconscious.
The trio said in a joint statement, “Female patients deserve to have their bodily integrity respected when they are unconscious and vulnerable during a medical procedure.”
If passed, this measure would bring Wisconsin in line with 18 other states that have similar laws, 12 of which were passed within the past four years.
