Betty J. Gorte, age 77, of Manitowoc, passed away Friday, February 24, 2023, at the Aurora Medical Center of Manitowoc County.
The former Betty Wagner was born January 21, 1946, in Two Rivers, daughter of the late Earl and Beatrice (Doncheck) Wagner. She was a 1964 graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School. On October 25, 1969, Betty married Richard H. Gorte at First German Ev. Lutheran Church. The couple farmed in the Town of Cato for many years. Betty was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She enjoyed all of her family’s activities. She was a member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Newtonburg.
Survivors include her husband: Richard Gorte, Manitowoc; one son and daughter-in-law: Mark (Tara) Gorte, Manitowoc; one daughter and son-in-law: Nicole (Chris) Matte, Plymouth; four grandchildren: Austin Gorte, Jaydin Grenier, Madison Gorte, and Lillian Matte; one great grandchild: Grayson Gorte; one brother and sister-in-law: William (Diane) Wagner, Racine; two sisters and one brother-in-law: Gail (Edward) Schwahn, Reedsville, and Mary Wagner, Manitowoc; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends survive. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother: Jeff Wagner.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, 7531 English Lake Rd, Manitowoc. The Rev. Michah Martin will officiate with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until the time of services at 11:30 AM. A Memorial fund has been established in Betty’s name for St. John Ev. Lutheran School.
