For the several hundred that have preceded this years participants can attest to, there’s nothing that breathes life into a frigid winter day like sailing across the frozen ground in a homemade porta-potty.
Lakeshore Foster Families and Friends will once again host the 4th annual Porta-Potty Races from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at The Smiling Moose in Osman.
You may be asking, “What are the Porta Potty Races?“ They began in 2020 with a simple idea of just trying something different and unique to make the best out of winter and it has quickly become one of the most awaited and popular winter events in Manitowoc County.
Competitors build lavatories that must have three walls and a toilet seat, leaving room for a wide array of design strategies to slip and flip.
The porta-potties sit upon homemade skis, and within each unique exterior sits a courageous driver operating the latrine with nerves of steel hoping not to lose control.
Crews comprising a maximum of three then push and pull their pieces of artwork 30 yards to the finish line displaying feats of athleticism and balance that have never been seen before and maybe in some cases never again.
All kidding aside, all proceeds go to benefit Lakeshore Foster Families and Friends, a non-profit organization working to support, foster, and kinship children and the families who provide for them.
Food, drinks, and raffles along with old fashion family fun provide the perfect recipe to enjoy a winter’s day on the lakeshore.
Races begin at noon and for more information go to www.lakeshorefosterfamilies.org/porta-potty-races.
