The United States Championship Cheese Contest took place this week at the Resch Expo in Green Bay.
Nearly 2,250 different cheeses were on display and sampled by judges over the tow day contest, and Eastern Wisconsin producers fared quite well.
Manitowoc’s Pine River Dairy earned a blue ribbon in the flavored butter category for their Sea Salt Caramel butter, while Pine River Pre-Pack earned first and second place finishes in the Flavored Cold Pack class
They also came in second for a Cheese Based Spread.
Another Manitowoc County winner was Henning Cheese out of Kiel. They swept the top four spots in the Traditional Waxed Cheddar category, while also earning 2nd place in the High Heat Pepper and Hard Flavored classes, and a third in Colby.
The Land O Lakes Kiel Production team also earned a 1st place finish in the Aged Cheddar class.
Other successful cheese producers in the area include Agropur in Luxemburg, who nabbed four first-place finishes, a second and three third, and BelGioioso in Denmark, who secured two first, second, and third place ribbons.
The Best in Show winner will be announced at 2:00 this afternoon.
