The Common Council President in Manitowoc has apologized for his recent comments at a Personnel Committee meeting.
Earlier this month, Steve Czekala told members of the Manitowoc Professional Firefighters Association Union that he would “beat the hell out of” them if they brought forth another residency accommodation request.
While on WOMT’s Be My Guest program Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels told us that Czekala “personally met with the union leadership, he met with union members at one of their meetings…to apologize and say what happened, and where his frame of mind was when those comments were made.”
Czekala has since been removed from the Personnel Committee on a unanimous vote from the rest of the Council, which also included a censure.
Mayor Nickels reiterated that Czekala will remain in his position on the Council, and said that the Council is “moving forward.”
