Sales of existing homes in Wisconsin fell nearly 34 percent in January, compared to the same month one year ago.
The slide continued a trend that first emerged in the fourth quarter of 2022.
The median price of homes that closed last month rose 8.5 percent over the same 12-month period to $250,000.
Meanwhile, home sales dropped by a nearly identical level here in Manitowoc County from January of a year ago, 77 to 49 or just over 36 percent.
The median price locally rose by 9 percent in the past year, from $142,000 to $155,000.
The Wisconsin Realtors Association explained that although mortgage rates have fallen from peak levels in October when they averaged 6.9 percent, they remained relatively high in January at 6.27 percent.
That compares to the average rate of just 3.45 percent one year ago.
