Manitowoc Public Utilities has filed a request for an electric rate increase with the Wisconsin Public Service Commission.
MPU General Manager Troy Adams explains the utility has not had a rate increase since 2005.
“I guess the things that really changed right now or this year and you’re feeling it everywhere, energy prices are high,” he explained to Seehafer News. “Starting with fuel, transportation, and all these other pieces play into that.”
He went on to say, “We’ve seen our fuel costs go up 100, 200, 300 percent and we’re bringing in pet coke, coal, and then limestone that we use on a project to capture some of the pollutants. All of their prices have gone up really, really high, that flows through then into that rate.”
Adams also told us that MPU has had to deal with rising costs in a difficult economy.
“Like every other business we’ve seen inflation high the last couple of years, we’ve grown with some additions to staff,” he noted.
Troy Adams says they’re looking at an impact of an additional $6.00 per month for the typical residential customer.
