Multiple Fire Departments, law enforcement agencies and various other entities responded to the scene of a house fire early this morning in The Town Of Schleswig. The initial call came into the Kiel Fire Department just before 5:40 a.m. Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy smoke and flames from the structure at 19735 Highway 57. Crews began suppression efforts and additional water tenders were requested due to the scope of the blaze. The occupants of the home were not inside at the time and no one was injured. Law enforcement closed Highway 67 to Lax Chapel Road for approximately seven hours and reopened it to thru traffic at 2:20 p.m. Fire crews remained on scene for several hours for clean up and check for potential hot spots. The home is deemed a total loss and the cause remains under investigation.
