
Bail is set at $3000 cash for a 53-year-old Manitowoc man charged with Driving Under the influence-seventh offense last weekend.
Gene Chojnacki is also charged with Obstructing an Officer, Possession of Marijuana Drug Paraphernalia, and a Controlled Substances where prohibited and one count each of Felony and Misdemeanor Bail Jumping.
Police noticed a vehicle sped away in the area of the 300 block of North 11th Street last Friday evening and recognized the vehicle, knowing that the owner (Chojancki) had a felony warrant out for his arrest.
Chojancki was eventually pulled over on South 14th Street and when he rolled his window down, an officer noticed a distinct smell of alcohol coming from inside his vehicle.
Chojnacki eventually revealed this identity after giving police a fake name and address adding he had consumed “two or three beers”.
He was also found to be in possession of marijuana and was taken into custody without incident after failing a field sobriety test.
Conditions of bail are that Chojnacki maintain absolute sobriety and is not to operate a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license.
He remains in The County Jail with his initial appearance scheduled for February 20th at 1:30 p.m.
