Assemblyman Shae Sortwell has introduced a bill that he says will address victims’ rights.
The Republican from Two Rivers noted that current state law does not require that all financial obligations be paid back by convicted felons, specifically to the victims of their crimes.
In a statement, Rep. Sortwell noted “believe this undermines victims’ rights and should also be mandatory.”
He went on to say that “The victim should have her rights fully restored before the criminal… and my legislation maintains that notion.”
The measure was co-authored by Senator Duey Strobel of Saukville.
