Holla's latest pizza creation, the Na'cho Momma's Pizza
One of America’s all-time favorite foods is celebrated on this day.
It’s National Pizza Day.
Whether it is thin crust, Chicago-style, deep dish, or anything in between, pizza is an American favorite.
Manitowoc resident Jason Prigge started cooking in restaurants when he was 15 and from there he cooked in places around the country, he opened up three restaurants in his life and has done hotel banquets as well.
“There are so many iterations of pizza,” Prigge noted. “You can have a meat lovers pizza, a veggie pizza and now these days there are cauliflower crusts for those who can’t handle the gluten, there are gluten-free crusts, there are all sorts of different styles. And here in Manitowoc, we are blessed with several different wonderful pizza places to go and enjoy a slice.”
His favorite is Neopolitan style pizza.
“Holla here in Manitowoc has a fantastic pizza,” he said. “The reason I like that is they’re using a wood fire oven as well. That wood gets smoky and infuses itself into the dough, really giving a nice flavor to the pizza.”
Some pizza facts:
Pepperoni is the most popular pizza comprising 36% of all pies ordered, over 3 billion pizzas are sold in the U.S. each year and Americans consume an average of 23 pounds of pizza, per person, each year.
And, as Prigge puts it “We all have our favorites, but truth be told, any pizza is good pizza.”
