With bitter cold temperatures invading our area this week, Wisconsin Public Service is giving residents some tips on staying warm.
First, they remind residents to check their carbon monoxide detectors to ensure they are working properly.
As we have previously reported, Manitowoc County Emergency Management Director Kayla Beckerdite says that carbon monoxide is “one of the leading causes of winter deaths in the U.S.”
WPS warns that you should never use your stove to heat your home.
Not only is it inefficient, but it could also lead to carbon monoxide poisoning.
They also say you should keep your meters clear, as that can cause carbon monoxide to back up into your home.
A good way to help naturally heat your home is through the power of the sun.
Open up your shades and let the sunshine in, and at night, reclose them.
