With work well underway on the Central Park West 365 project in Two Rivers, some may be wondering what is going to happen to the old bandstand?
City Manager Greg Buckley tells Seehafer News that the City Council discussed that exact topic last week during a work session meeting.
While the council had always intended to simply demolish the old structure, some council members questioned if the historic structure could be moved and reused.
“Our City Engineer, Matt Heckenlaible, presented a report on options that had been reviewed for that,” Buckley said.
These included, “possibly relocating it for use as covered storage, maybe with the addition of walls of course, at Vietnam Veterans Park, or at Vets Park near the boat launch down at the Public Works yards.”
The big issue with that is, of course, the cost.
“You need to pour footings and foundations where it’s going, and otherwise equip it,” Buckley explained. “We identified that, from an estimated cost of $35,000 for demolition as is, just to move it and have it standing on a proper foundation, without walls, would bring the cost up to $75,000 or more.”
While a new structure of its kind would cost an estimated $100,000, Buckley says that Council decided to simply demolish the current bandstand, which again was the original plan.
He did say that they may be reaching out to see if anyone would like to salvage any of the roof trusses or the steel beams holding the roof up.
The plan is to get the structure out of the way in time for Vinton Construction to start their work on the Park, which is estimated to start in early April.
