Following complaints from citizens, the Sheboygan Area School District has removed three books from the Sheboygan South High School Library.
Many people had attended Monday evening’s School Board meeting with the intention of demanding action, but Board President Mary Lynne Donohue told them that it was already done.
She explained that the books known as “Fun Home”, “Gender Queer”, and “Are You My Mother” were taken out of the library by the order of Principal Kevin Formolo.
“Fun Home” and “Gender Queer” are graphic novels, which contain drawings of sexual acts, while the other described them in detail.
Those who support the books say they are intended to help kids who are struggling with their gender identity or sexual orientation, while those who oppose them say there is no reason pictures and descriptions of sexual acts need to be in books available at the school.
