What are you supposed to do when you accidentally call 911?
It’s a problem many people have when they get a new cellphone or smartwatch, as those devices have the ability to call 911 without being unlocked.
Some have even accidentally placed that call while the phone was in their pocket.
The Appleton Police Department advises that you stay on the line.
While an officer is likely to be sent to your location either way, if you stay on the line, the dispatcher can gather as much information as possible and relay it to the officer.
The APD also asks that you take some time to familiarize yourself with your phone, and to look into how you can make sure you don’t accidentally call the emergency line.
