This past week, the Department of Health Services announced that they will be ending the extra benefits for those enrolled in FoodShare.
The most affected by this change will be older adults at the minimum benefit level, which will potentially see their monthly benefits fall from $281 down to only $23.
Amber Daugs of Grow it Forward tells Seehafer News that 8,000 Manitowoc County residents will be affected, and her organization is “bracing for an increase in attendance” at the pantry.
As they make these preparations, Daugs tells us, “We are in great need of cereal, peanut butter, soups, but the biggest impact one can make is through financial contributions which allows us to purchase food wholesale or at discount from Feeding America and other sources.”
Those who wish to donate can drop cash off at Café Harmony inside the former worship space at 1501 Marshal Street.
