State Senator Andre Jacque is kicking off the 2023 legislative session with three new bills.
All three bills were co-written by Assemblyman Dave Murphy, including their Hmong and Laotian Veteran Recognition Act.
This measure aims to recognize the sacrifices and honor the bravery of the Hmong and other Laotian soldiers who fought with the U.S. during the Vietnam War.
Another measure the two worked on is the UW WTCS Universal Credit / Dual Enrollment Expansion Act.
This legislation aims to require the Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin System and the Technical College System Board to implement a universal course numbering and credit transfer system within five years and eliminate a restriction on the respective educational roles of the UWS and TCS.
Their final bill in their first 2023 package is the Wisconsin GI Bill Talent Attraction and Upskilling Act.
The proposal, which has support from numerous veterans organizations including the VFW, modifies the residency requirement for the tuition and fee remission program for certain veterans and their spouses and children enrolled in University of Wisconsin System schools and technical colleges.
