Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu
The newest members of the Wisconsin State Legislature are all now on the job.
Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu addressed the group recently as they all prepare for the 2023/2024 session, where he spoke of unity.
He started his inauguration speech by saying, “A new year and a new legislative session brings with it opportunity. Opportunities to work together to address issues that are faced by all Wisconsinites. An opportunity to build common sense policy that improves how our government functions. Opportunities to reform our laws to better serve the future needs of the State.”
He also touted the importance of the upcoming budget negotiations, and what he thinks should be done with the projected surplus.
A big part of that would be tax reform.
LeMahieu, along fellow local legislators Senator Andre Jacque and Assemblyman Paul Tittl are favoring a change to a flat tax, which would get rid of the current four-bracket system.
All three legislators say the flat tax system is more simple and is used by our neighboring states to great success.
