A freshman at Bay Port High School has died.
Ava Schmidt was battling Influenza A and passed on December 21st.
Ava has a sister, which is in 7th Grade, and her mother teaches at Forest Glen Elementary School.
Additional school counselors were made available at Bay Port High School last week to help students who were coping with the loss.
A GoFundMe has been set up to assist the Schmidt family.
The organizer of the GoFundMe called Ava a “beautiful child” who was “…so thoughtful and was always looking for ways to show you she loved you. Whether it was a Starbucks drink, an order of cheese curds or just a hug she wanted to find a way to put a smile on your face.”
As of this morning, over $100,000 was raised for the family.
