The leader of Manitowoc County’s Drug Enforcement Unit appeared on WOMT’s Be My Guest Thursday morning.
Lieutenant Dave Remiker explained a relatively new county ordinance covering drug nuisance properties.
“Once we arrest that person, I reach out to the property owner, and advise them that their property has been deemed a drug nuisance property,” he said. “Then we, the Drug Unit personnel, assist those property owners, providing them with paperwork, testimony if it’s a contested eviction and anything else they may need to get that person removed from their property.”
Remiker spoke of how the ordinance applied to a person recently arrested for drug delivery.
“The interesting part about this case, it wasn’t the tenant that did the delivery,” he explained. “It’s not specific to the person or the tenant, it’s specific to the property. That person is going to get paperwork, and once they get the paperwork, they are required to vacate that property within five days.”
Lieutenant Remiker said it’s been effective for them in resolving drug nuisance issues, something he called a growing problem with some tenants in rental properties in Manitowoc County.
