With the flu season in full swing, the Manitowoc County Health Department is reminding residents of the importance of getting vaccinated.
In a news release, Health Officer Stephanie Lambert said that “Getting vaccinated is one of the best ways to stay healthy and protect against flu. Approximately 80% of flu-related deaths in children occur in children who are not vaccinated.”
She also noted that getting the vaccine is especially important for people at a higher risk, including those who are pregnant, young children, those 65 and older, and those with certain medical conditions such as asthma or heart disease.
The Health Department has also announced that they are offering walk-in and appointment-based flu vaccination for children ages 6 months through 18 years of age at no cost until supplies run out.
However, adults must visit a pharmacy or their provider for their annual vaccine.
