The Kaukauna man who was convicted of causing his girlfriend’s miscarriage and fleeing the country has lost his appeal effort.
Wisconsin’s District 3 Appellate Court heard the case of Manish Patel on Tuesday and affirmed the previous judgment.
Back in 2007, Patel’s girlfriend had two miscarriages in a year, and when she went in for testing, it was determined she had been given a chemical abortion pill.
Patel was arrested, but after posting his $750,000 cash bond, he fled to India where he remained until 2017.
He was promptly arrested as he entered the U.S. in New York.
Patel was then extradited back to Wisconsin, where a judge set his bail at $50 million cash.
He was convicted in 2018, and is serving a 22-year prison sentence.
