Is it Time to hand over the keys to the car known as the Green Bay Packers to Jordan Love?
Some are of that mindset, including a prominent broadcaster in Northeast Wisconsin.
During an appearance on WOMT Sports Talk at Brix in downtown Manitowoc Monday night, John Maino says the former number one draft pick from Utah State showed his maturity coming in for an injured Aaron Rogers in the fourth quarter in Sunday night’s loss at Philadelphia.
“Jordan Love for the first time showed some things to prove that he can be a pro quarterback and that the spotlight wasn’t too big for him to handle,” Maino said. “Everybody is going to make some mistakes but I just thought that his composure was the most important aspect of his performance.”
Love led the Packers on a pair of scoring drives. Including a 63-yard touchdown pass to Christian Watson, that gave them hope until the end.
Maino also thinks that everything has lined up for Love to prove that he’s the quarterback of the future.
“If the Packers were a game out of first place and the defense was playing lights out then you’d have to play Aaron Rodgers and be all in,” he said. “I’m sorry but a shot at making the playoffs this year is over. Let this kid that you invested a number one draft pick for [Love] prove he can either do the job or not. If not, then don’t complain that you don’t have your quarterback of the future.”
The 4 and 8 Packers play at Chicago Sunday and Rodgers said yesterday that he plans on playing Sunday despite a broken thumb and injured ribs.
