Each year, the Green Bay Metro Fire Department hangs a wreath donned with green Christmas lights, and each time they respond to a residential fire, they change a bulb to red.
The Holiday Wreath Program is designed to raise public awareness about fire safety, however, they have already had to change out one of the bulbs.
Crews were sent to a residence on the east side at around 1:00 yesterday afternoon (November 29th) to battle a garage fire.
The blaze was quickly extinguished, and it was determined the cause was the improper disposal of smoking materials.
The Department issued a statement reminding smokers to never “discard cigarettes in vegetation such as mulch, potted plants, or landscaping.”
