The Manitowoc City Clerk’s Office has issued a news release alerting area residents of soon-to-be city council vacancies and the first date to circulate nomination papers for the Spring Election. City Clerk Mackenzie Reed pointed out that Aldermanic Districts 1, 2, 3, 7, and 10 have two-year terms expiring on April 17th, 2023. Those positions are to be elected to succeed the present incumbents.
In order to seek office as an alderperson, those interested must be at least 18 years old, live in the Aldermanic District you’re running for, and not be a convicted felon. Reed explains the first-day candidates can circulate nomination papers is Thursday, December 1st, and the deadline for filing those papers in her office is 5 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3rd. If a primary is necessary, it’ll be held on Tuesday, February 21st.
